E3 2016: Nordic Games Resurrecting We Sing Series

I feel like this series might’ve gone of the rails back during the Wii days.

While E3 is generally a time to put AAA games on large screens for all to gawk at, sometimes forgotten series such as We Sing get a surprising restart. Nordic Games sent out a press release this morning with their intentions to bring back the franchise that has laid dormant since the release of its Wii games in the early 2010s. Not much in the way of details have been shown with this news but we do know that a new company, We Sing Productions, will be bring these games to ‘multiple platforms’ with the first game to be released at some point this year. Nordic Games currently has a booth at E3 (in the South Hall, #MR307) and will be teasing a reveal of this game behind closed doors. With the resurgence and then ambivalence given to the new generation of Guitar Hero and Rock Band it’s hard to say what the future holds for those who want to have people holding gaming mics again. If anything, the below press release does show that Nordic Games does have faith in getting karaoke back in people’s homes and possibly their hearts:

NORDIC GAMES, WIRED PRODUCTIONS AND LE CORTEX ANNOUNCE NEW INTERACTIVE MUSIC FORMATION, WE SING PRODUCTIONS

Industry Heavyweights Collaborate On Innovative Approach to Music Singing Games with Multi-Year, Multi-Platform Portfolio of “We Sing” based Products

LONDON — June 13, 2016 — We Sing returns in 2016, so grab your mics as the band is back! Nordic Games, Wired Productions, and Le Cortex are delighted to announce the formation of We Sing Productions, a new company with the remit to create leading edge singing games based on the We Sing IP for multiple platforms through an array of distribution channels. More information can be found at the Nordic Games E3 booth #MR307, South Hall.

Each partner played a crucial role in the original We Sing success story, which began in 2009 as the first music game that supported up to four mics, and has sold over 1.5 million units to-date. The aim is to make We Sing the number one music game franchise, working closer than ever with the Music Labels to bring some extra-special exclusives, as well as a three tiered product strategy that will be unveiled over the coming weeks.

The first game from We Sing Productions launches later this year and will be followed by revolutionary inter-connected initiatives soon after.

Nik Blower, Nordic Games said, “Our long standing, close relationship and past successes with both Wired Productions and Le Cortex has provided the perfect opportunity to take back the singing genre crown. We are now realising plans which have been in our hearts and minds for quite some time.”

“We’re delighted to partner with Nordic Games and Le Cortex within this new company dedicated to the success of We Sing,” said Leo Zullo, Wired Productions. He continued, “We truly believe we have a line-up that will engage and excite music fans the world over.”

Frédéric Sommer and Johan Spielmann, Le Cortex continued, “Bringing We Sing to a host of new platforms and distribution channels beginning later this year is incredibly exciting. We can’t wait to share news with you in the near future on what we’ve all been working on.”

We Sing will be on multiple console platforms and serve as the first product in the We Sing Productions line up. E3 meetings will serve as a ‘tease’ reveal for the first game.
